The best part is that you don’t even have to drive into town, as the Gatlinburg Trolley stops right at our campground and offers convenient transportation into downtown Gatlinburg for free! Here are 3 tips on riding the Gatlinburg Trolley from our Smoky Mountain campground:
1. Catching the Trolley at Our Smoky Mountain Campground
The Gatlinburg Trolley makes a stop at our campground 4 times a day from April through October, with stops at 11 AM, 2 PM, 5 PM, and 7 PM. There is no fee or ticket required to ride the trolley, so just hop aboard for this free service into downtown Gatlinburg! Once you get into the downtown area, there are several different trolley lines that can take you throughout the city. You might notice that the Gatlinburg Trolley maps do not show a permanent fixed route to our campground, but no worries! This is simply because the service operates as an extension to a seasonal schedule and has only the 4 daily runs.
2. Riding the Trolley at Alternate Times
If you want to board the Gatlinburg Trolley at an earlier time or during the months it doesn’t stop at our campground, there is a trolley stop with free parking just 4 miles away! It is located right along Highway 321 and across the road from Food City, between the post office and the police department. From this convenient park-and-ride lot, you can board the trolley’s Yellow Line, which operates daily from April to October and on Mondays through Saturdays in November and December. The trolley stops about once per hour at this location from 10:30 AM to 6 PM.
3. Connecting to Other Destinations in the Smokies
All Gatlinburg Trolley routes operate service to the Gatlinburg Mass Transit Center, which is adjacent to Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies. From here, you can transfer to other trolley lines to access destinations such as Anakeesta, Gatlinburg SkyPark, Ober Gatlinburg and Rocky Top Sports World. The Purple Line connects to the Gatlinburg Welcome Center, where you can even transfer to the Pigeon Forge trolley system to head up to Dollywood or The Island in Pigeon Forge. Keep in mind that, unlike the Gatlinburg Trolley, the Pigeon Forge trolley does charge a nominal fee.
