1. Gatlinburg Trail
The Gatlinburg Trail is just a short drive from our Smoky Mountain campground and is one of just two trails where you can walk your dog within Great Smoky Mountains National Park! You’ll find trailhead parking on River Road, which is right on the outskirts of downtown Gatlinburg. The trail travels 1.9 miles one-way to the Sugarlands Visitor Center and is relatively flat, making it an excellent destination for dog walking! It runs along the West Prong of the Little Pigeon River, which you eventually cross via a pedestrian footbridge. While exploring the trail, you’ll also pass the foundations and chimneys of several old homesites!
2. Gatlinburg Dog Park
Another one of the top places to take your dog near our pet-friendly Smoky Mountain campground is the Gatlinburg Dog Park, which is within Mills Park and just 5 minutes away! This state-of-the-art dog park, operated by the City of Gatlinburg, offers a perfect place that both large and small dog owners can enjoy with their pets! There are a pair of separate fenced-in areas, one for large dogs and one for small dogs, that feature a double-gated entrance to prevent dogs from getting loose. Each of the facilities offers shaded areas, turfed grass areas, benches, dog-waste bags, and trash cans.
3. Sevierville's PetSafe Unleashed Dog Park
If you feel like enjoying a scenic 30-minute drive with your canine companion, head north to Sevierville’s PetSafe Unleashed Dog Park! This amazing park is designed to give dogs a safe space to run and enjoy the great outdoors, and you can even test out your dog’s skills on the agility equipment! The PetSafe Unleashed Dog Park is open daily for both locals and visitors and is situated within the Sevierville City Park. You’ll find separate areas for small and large breeds, double fence entry, shaded benches, water fountains for dog use, and multiple pet waste disposal stations!
