Before you head to the mountains for a weekend of camping with your family, there are some important tips to learn to make sure you have a fun and relaxing time. From what you should pack to some campground rules and regulations, read our list of the top 4 tips to follow to make sure you have a blast camping in the Smokies!

1. Pack Smart

When preparing for your weekend of camping in the Smokies, one of the most important things you’ll need to do is to make a detailed packing list so that you make sure you have everything you and your family needs.

The temperature in the mountains can swing with chills in the air over the course of a single day, so it’s important to pack plenty of clothes that can easily be layered. You might be in your bathing suit swimming or soaking up some sun in the afternoon but chilly and curled up in front of a fire at night!

It’s a good idea to include a first aid kit on your packing list, and you will be happy to have plenty of warm blankets and pillows to keep you comfy at night. You’ll also want to pack your family’s favorite snacks and meals that can be prepared quickly and easily. Don’t forget the marshmallows!

2. Bring Your Pup

To have even more fun camping in the Smokies, consider bringing the family dog along on the trip! By bringing your critter camping with you, you will be able to avoid the hassle and cost of boarding accommodations, not to mention your dog will be thrilled to be included in the family fun! Your kids will have a blast walking Fido around the campground, and if you feel like exploring outside the campground, there are also plenty of pet friendly attractions throughout the Smokies. 3. Decide How You’ll Camp

Before you head towards the mountains, you’ll need to decide how you’ll be camping in the Smokies. Our campground has beautiful areas for tent camping, which offers the classic camping experience that you probably imagine when you think about a weekend in the mountains. You’ll love the rewarding work involved with popping a tent, building a fire for cooking and warmth and falling asleep under the stars.

If you have an RV, our campground also has nearly 100 spaces available, ranging from private wooded areas to premium waterfront spots. All of our RV spaces offer water, sewer, electric and cable.

For an even more luxurious camping experience, consider renting the Flint Rock Cabin, our beautifully restored 1 bedroom cabin that’s located on the Little Pigeon River, just 6 miles from downtown Gatlinburg TN. This cabin has a king bed, a sofa bed, a set of bunk beds, a full bathroom and a private deck that leads to the famous Flint Rock swimming hole, making it the perfect retreat for up to 6 people!
